*Minimum age requirement

18 years

for drivers of motor vehicles.

 

However, this minimum age is set at:

16 years

for the drivers of mopeds providing the vehicle carries no other person than the driver

3 months before 17th birthday

for drivers following practical training to obtain a learner driver's licence as understood by Article 10 of the Royal Decree on Driving Licences of 23 March 1998

3 months before 18th birthday

for drivers following practical training to obtain a driving licence valid for categories A or B

21 years

for the drivers of motorcycles with a power greater than 25 kW or a power-to-weight ratio of over 0.16 kW/kg, unless they have held for at least two years a driving licence valid for driving motorcycles with a power of less than 25 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of less than or equal to 0.16 kW/kg or a Belgian driving licence valid for category A2 or if they are holders of a Belgian driving licence valid for category A1

16 years

for drivers of vehicles pulled by (a) draught animal(s)

14 years

for drivers of unharnessed draught, pack and riding animals as well as livestock. However, this age limit can be reduced to 12 years for drivers of riding animals provided they are accompanied by a rider aged 21 years at least.
