POLICE AND SECURITY AWARENESS MESSAGE
CLOSURE OF BERLIN GATE EXIT LANES
Effective 0700 hours on 1 March, the Berlin Gate Exit Lanes will be closed for approximately 14 days to enable completion of a road works project to be carried out. All outbound lanes will be blocked for the duration of the work.
The primary exit from SHAPE will be via Zagreb Gate (200 Area). The diversion will be signposted from the Ave de Berlin/Rue du Rhin junction. Drivers exiting via Zagreb Gate are to pay particular attention when joining the Rue Grande/N6, especially when crossing the carriageway to head towards Soignies. Do not ‘gamble' with traffic already on the main road.
In order to maintain manning levels to operate Ottawa and Luxembourg Gates, we are implementing a ‘silent hours' entry/exit traffic-flow system (1900-0700) at the Berlin Gate. A traffic cone system will guide exiting traffic via Lane 1 to the traffic light system; the key point to note is that traffic entering SHAPE from the direction of Mons will be filtered into one lane after crossing the southbound carriageway. (We cannot operate this system 24/7 because of the volume of traffic and road safety requirements.)
Drivers entering and exiting SHAPE are to comply with the temporary signs and speed limit, exercising maximum care at all times. If road safety becomes an issue, the Zagreb Gate will open 24/7 and one of the other gates will close for the duration of the work.
0700-1900 hours– Berlin Gate exit lanes closed, exiting traffic diverted through Zagreb Gate.
1900-0700 hours – Berlin Gate entry lanes reconfigured to enable entry/exit.
