The International Chapel Charity Counsel, or IC3 as it is popularly known, was founded in April of 2011 in an attempt to provide a focus for those who have the time, skills, or money to share with the less fortunate in our local Belgian community. Members of the IC3 Council are all SHAPE/Chievres-associated volunteers, come from different countries and cultures, have different interests, and offer support in any way they can.
Historically, SHAPE has provided support to nine organizations through the International Chapel with Tommy Temple, including in 1985, when the Share-A-Meal (or SAM), Christmas hamper program was born. Today, SAM is run by its own Group II MWA Council and in 2011, through them coordinated the giving of multiple holiday meals for more than 200 Belgian families in need, along with presents for the children.
IC3 is continually compiling information on organizations in need in the immediate community, as well as others who have offered their help in the past. Our list now includes 22 children's homes, soup kitchens, community organizations, and homeless shelters. We also support the SHAPE Thrift Shop, Grandma's Attic and Tommy Temple's Charity garage.
Organizations, private groups or families are able to contact IC3 to find out if any of the charities have any specifics needs, monetary or otherwise. Programs also exist to receive donations of food, used clothing and household items. The Council's role has been simply to assist in making the connection. However, that role has expanded to actively assisting in making good things happen. We will continue to organize fundraisers throughout the year and provide even more help to SERVE THOSE WHO SERVE OTHERS.
