Selling to SHAPE Member ("Green" SHAPE I.D. Card Holder)

Before you can sell a vehicle to another SHAPE member, your vehicle MUST pass a Controle Technique (CT) inspection for selling, even if the car is less than four years' old. Without this, it is not possible for the buyer to register the vehicle.

Before the buyer can register the vehicle purchased, the vehicle must be de-registered. To do this, the seller/buyer must bring the back plate (with mark) and the bill of sale/invoice (or proof of transaction) to the Central Processing Branch-Registration Section (CEP-RGN), bldg 210, rm 109-110.

Sellers must give the buyer the following documents:

  • ‘Demande d'immatriculation' (application to register a car, pink in colour); received from the CT centre. During this visit the seller has to request the issue of the document ‘Demande d'immatriculation' from the CT station. This CT is only valid for 60 calendar days to allow time for the buyer to register the vehicle.
  • ‘Certificate de Visite' Controle thechnique CT, to certify that the vehicle is in good roadworthy state.
  • Current registration certificate of the purchased vehicle.
  • Invoice/Bill of Sale. Invoice/Bill of Sale. For the T1 and T2 (Tax free cars), you MUST have the bill of sale stamped by the Belgian Customs office, bldg 210, rm 111A. Standard forms are available at the Central Processing Branch-Registration Section (CEP-RGN), bldg 210, rm 109-110.
  • Transfer of ownership between spouses. This document must be signed and beeing stamped by the TVA office in bldg 210 before presenting to the CEP-RGN for registration and you must pass an administratif controle technique (CT).

Buyer has to bring:

  • A valid green insurance card (with a start and end date) for the vehicle covering a time frame for at least on year or to the end of tour.

NOTE: Chassis number (VIN) and a Belgian address must be on the green insurance card. You may use your post office address.

If you do not have the green insurance card in hand, the CEP-RGN can call your insurance company to have the documents faxed directly. If you desire this method, you must bring the telephone number (commercial, including country and area codes) with you at the time of registration.

Before you sell your vehicle, be sure to verify the tax status of your vehicle to avoid potentially paying any taxes for T1 or T2 vehicles.

Last, you MUST de-register the vehicle.
