Vehicle REGISTRATION/EXTENSION/DEREGISTRATION

GENERAL INFORMATION

You must register all vehicles used or located in Belgium within 1 month of the vehicle being imported in Belgium, or procurement in Belgium. It is also mandatory to de-register any vehicle upon your permanent departure from SHAPE.

The registration can be requested for a maximum period of 3 (three) years starting at the end of the month of the registration date.

Technical Inspection (Controle Technique)

When?

- Vehicle is older than 4 years

- When selling a car (this CT is valid two months for registration purposes)

- When selling a motorcycle, tricycle or quadricycle with:

. Cylinder capacity greater than 125 cc;

. When equipped with an electric or hybrid engine delivering more than 11 kW of power and maximum speed exceeding 45 km/hour.

- Transfer of Ownership between spouses

- Trailers (>750 Kg) and caravans must pass CT after their first registration in Belgium

- Certificate of conformity (not mandatory for SHAPE registrations)

- Previous CT Attestation

- Insurance Card

Remark: You can choose the station of your choice, not necessarily the one closest to your home or work place.

Vehicle License Plate costs

You will receive your new vehicle license plate normally ten business days after the application has been processed. The rear plate, registration fee and administration cost is 35€ and can be paid either in cash or with Bank Card the day of the initial application.  You will receive an email when your plates are available to pick up at the MoFA Office in BLDG 210.

Rental Car Fuel Ration

While you await your vehicle being imported or registered in Belgium, sponsors are entitled to begin purchasing fuel rations with a vehicle rental contract valid for a minimum of 30 days. To receive this eligibility, you must make an appointment with the blue button below, and bring the following documents with you:

• Rental car contract (in sponsor's name) for a minimum of 30 days
• Vehicle registration documents (found in vehicle)
• SHAPE I.D. card
