IMPORTING YOUR VEHICLE TO BELGIUM

FROM THE EU

Required Documentation:

1. SHAPE ID 
Only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized
2. A valid national registration document (with the sponsor's name)
3. A valid International Motor Insurance Card, with:

  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name) 
  • Expiration Date (must have more than 31 days of coverage from the day of registration)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address in Belgium (APO, BFPO Boxes are allowed)
4. Belgian Controle Technique (CT) 
Inspection approved document, green in colour:

  • If the vehicle is more than 4 years old, or;
  • If the registration document is not in the name of the sponsor. (Transfer between Spouses if applicable)

5. Demande d'immatriculation (pink form)
This document will be issued by RGN office in case the vehicle is less than 4 years old. If the vehicle is older, the CT station will issue this document. In case a special small plate is requested, a stamp from the CT station must be filled in a box "X10" of the document in question.

FROM NON-EU

Required Documentation:

1. SHAPE ID 
Only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized
2. A valid registration document issued by the country outside of the EU and the export certificate (with the sponsor's name).

For US Vehicles: a copy of the title or the letter from the bank authorizing the shipment in EU.

Note: the valid registration document is requested to check the conditions for customs exemption.

3. A valid International Motor Insurance Card , with:
  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name)
  • Expiration Date (must have more than 31 days of coverage from the day of registration)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address in Belgium (APO, BFPO Boxes are allowed)
4.  Customs document (302 or T1) or Shipping document
Proof that the vehicle was shipped into EU 
Note: for NATO Forces and military, T1 is the exception to the rules: better to speak about customs declaration.
T1 document must be signed by Customs office before registering the vehicle at the RGN Office!
5. Belgium Controle Technique (CT)
Inspection approved document, green in colour:

  • If the vehicle is more than 4 years old, or; 
  • If the registration document is not in the name of the sponsor. (Transfer between Spouses if applicable)

6. Demande d'immatriculation (pink form)
This document will be issued by RGN office when it’s less than 4 years old. If the vehicle is older, the CT station will issue this document. In case a special small plate is requested, a stamp from the CT station must be filled in a box “X10" of the document in question.


OLDTIMERS


A vehicle can only be registered as a true Oldtimer to Ordinary Residents in Belgium.  Oldtimers are not eligible for SHAPE transit plates, and therefore must be registered on the economy.  An Oldtimer CT must be valid and current before registration.


MOTORCYCLES

Required Documentation:

1. SHAPE ID (only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized)
2. A valid national registration document 
3. A valid International Motor Insurance, with:

  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name) 
  • Expiration Date (must have more than 31 days of coverage from the day of registration)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address in Belgium (APO, BFPO Boxes are allowed)

4. T1/ Shipping document / Custom documents: proof that the vehicle is in Belgium (if it is a shipped vehicle)
