IMPORTING YOUR VEHICLE TO BELGIUM


€45 CASH initial registration fee – (for non-European standard plate 55€ CASH) - Title (If it is US vehicle)
*35€ CASH initial registration fee for Motorcycles - Title (If it is US vehicle)

FROM EU

What you need:

1. SHAPE ID 
Only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized
2. A valid national registration document (with the sponsor's name)
3. A valid green insurance card, with:

  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name) 
  • Date (must have more than 1 month of coverage)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address (must be a Belgian address)
4. Belgium Controle Technique (CT) 
Inspection approved document, green in colour (if the vehicle is more than 4 years old).
5. Demande d'immatriculation
This document will be issued by RGN office when it’s less than 4 years old. If the vehicle is older, the CT station will issue this document. In case a special small plate is requested, a stamp from the CT station must be filled in a box "X10.

FROM NON-EU

What you need:

1. SHAPE ID 
Only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized
2. A valid registration document in the country outside EU and/or the export certificate (with the sponsor's name)
Note: the valid registration document is requested to check the conditions for customs exemption.
3. A valid green insurance card, with:
  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name)
  • Date (must have more than 1 month of coverage)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address (must be a Belgian address)
4.  Customs document (302 or T1) or Shipping document
Proof that the vehicle was shipped into EU 
Note: for NATO Forces and military, T1 is the exception to the rules: better to speak about customs declaration
5. Belgium Controle Technique (CT)
Inspection approved document, green in colour (if the vehicle is more than 4 years old).
6. Demande d'immatriculation

OLDTIMERS


An oldtimer will need a normal CT in order to be registered under SHAPE transit plates, an oldtimer cannot be registered as such under transit plates. An Oldtimer CT is only valid for ordinary residents in BEL, driving with Belgian plates.


MOTORCYCLES

What you need:

1. SHAPE ID (only AMIS I.D. card holders with relevant privileges are authorized)
2. A valid national registration document 
3. A valid green insurance card, with:

  • Name (must be in the sponsor’s name) 
  • Date (must have more than 1 month of coverage)
  • Chassis/VIN number
  • Address (must be a Belgian address)

4. T1/ Shipping document / Custom documents: proof that the vehicle is in Belgium (if it is a shipped vehicle)
