The SHAPE Shields are a competitive ice hockey team comprised of service members and NATO international civilians stationed mainly at SHAPE, but also at Chièvres AB or NATO HQ in Brussels.
The team participates in local and regional leagues or competitions, aiming to foster camaraderie, physical fitness, and esprit de corps among its members, as ice hockey provides an opportunity for service members and civilians from different nationalities and backgrounds to bond over a shared passion for this amazing sport.
SHAPE Shields are affiliated with the Charleroi Red Roosters Ice Hockey team, therefore practices and matches are typically taking place at the “Patinoire de Charleroi” – https://www.patinoire.be/, considered our home rink.
Games are scheduled throughout the hockey season, which usually runs every year from September to April; the team typically practices one time per week, often late in the evenings after duty hours: our current training schedule for the 2024/2025 season can be consulted below.
The SHAPE Shields ice hockey membership is opened to everyone with a passion for this sport, regardless of gender or their playing skills level, SHAPE (NATO) ID holders aged 15 years or over.
Currently, the team comprises members spanning over not less than 9 different nationalities:
and we’re really looking forward to expand our ranks, therefore come join us on the ice so we can build a strong shield together representing the Shapians community!
