DE-REGISTERING A VEHICLE

All SHAPE members are required to de-register their vehicle(s) and/or motorcycle(s) upon permanent transfer and/or departure from SHAPE or when selling a vehicle (whether it is sold in Belgium, in the EU or outside the EU).

1. Book appointment with the VAT office, bring the Registration Documents for the vehicle and request the form 'De-registration Document'. 

2. Book appointment with the Customs Office, bring the Registration Documents for the vehicle in question, the form 'De-registration Document' if delivered by the VAT office, and you will request the customs clearance of the vehicle for export.

3. Book an appointment with FAST Line through the BOOK APPOINTMENT button below to deregister vehicle, and:  

  • Bring De-registration Document and  the vehicle's back plate..  In case of export, the plates can stay with the vehicle until the vehicle is registered in new location.  You MUST return the BACK plate either via your support unit or by post to the following address (Vehicle Reg Office - FSCEP, Rm 108, Bldg. 210 SHAPE Mons, 7010 - Belgium) within 30 days (EU nationals) or  60 days (only overseas countries), counting  from departure date from SHAPE.
  • In case the back plate is returned after your leaving/out-processing date, as described here above, the De-registration document is not needed.

NOTE: If vehicle has been sold, back plate must be returned immediately, accompanied by Bill of Sale and De-registration Document.

What is the difference between a SHAPE ID and a Protocol ID?

The SHAPE ID is an internal identification card that grants access to SHAPE services and administrative offices.
The Belgian Protocol ID, on the other hand, is an official residence document issued by the Belgian authorities and serves as proof of legal residence in Belgium. The Protocol ID can only be requested after obtaining a SHAPE ID and having a registered address in Belgium.

How does vehicle registration work at SHAPE?

All vehicles imported, purchased, or used in Belgium must be registered within one month of arrival or acquisition. Vehicle registrations are typically valid for up to three years. Only eligible SHAPE ID holders may register vehicles under SHAPE plates, in accordance with Belgian regulations.

How can I apply for housing through SHAPE Village?

To apply for on-base housing at SHAPE Village, applicants must follow the housing procedures described on SHAPE2DAY. This process includes submitting the required documentation, attending an appointment, and complying with allocation policies established by the housing office.

How can a guest visit SHAPE?

All visitors must be authorized in advance and are required to be sponsored by a SHAPE member. Visitor access requests must be submitted using the SF550 at least five working days prior to the visit.
